It picked Finnish automatically, and asked me to set the time and date: "TII 26-HUH-05" is what it says when the format selected is "31.12.2005". Interesting. The date format it uses is very American with straightforward, but incorrect day and month abbreviations.

I should have figured that if Microsoft and Apple have not been able to agree on the order of OK and Cancel in their dialogs, phones would have the same problem. Used to have Cancel on the right-side "soft button", it'll take me some getting used to that Motorola switches these around.

Getting GPRS settings through in order to use the browser and email were a total bitch, taking several hours of real time, fortunately with Elisa's customer service spending most of it. I don't know where they finally found the working settings, but after receiving five configuration messages, it started to work. However, I still can not browse normal web sites, only through the Elisa WAP gateway. The settings dialogs do include HTTP transport options, so this will require more playing around.

I have yet to figure out how to sync the phonebook and calendar with any desktop app, given that I don't run Windows. Mac OS X Tiger (not yet available) will supposedly work with it, though. Hopefully that'll mean that some enterprising GNOME developer will pick up support as well. I've given up on Gammu, the program I've used to use for this purpose, as its developers seem to be more interested in rewriting existing functionality than making the program usable or supporting any new devices.

There are a lot of features, especially in the Internet connectivity and synchronisation side, that are tantalisingly hinted about in the settings dialogs, but left completely uncovered by the manual, which is sort of frustrating. I wasn't expecting a feature-packed smart phone, as I'm far more interested in having a small but functional phone, but getting the calendar to work is an important feature for me.
